Each mode is its own queue — you are matched with someone who chose the same one
AnonChat is a web page. The whole difference between talking to someone and not talking to someone is one tab.

The actual sequence
Video, voice and text are three separate matching queues. Whichever one you pick, the person on the other side picked the same one, so nobody is asked to switch on a camera they did not plan to use. You can change the mode before you start, and start again in a different mode at any point.
Text mode asks for nothing at all. Voice asks for the microphone only. Video asks for the camera and the microphone. The prompt is your browser’s own, not ours — and if you deny it, you are not stuck: the page stays open and you can move to a mode that needs less.
The match itself is random and it is a single other person, not a room — you are not picking someone out of a list, and nobody picked you out of one either. There is a directory you can browse separately if you ever want to, but the matching queue does not use it. For your first chat there is no account either.
Skip ends the conversation straight away and puts you back in the queue for the next one. You never owe an explanation and you never have to wait for the other person to agree. If something was wrong rather than just boring, report and block are in the same place.
Voice mode
Voice is its own queue, not video with the picture hidden. The browser is never asked for camera access, so there is nothing to forget to turn off. It is the mode for talking to someone while you are doing something else, or on a phone you would rather not point at your face.
Report
One control inside the chat sends the session to moderation. You do not have to stay to file it.
Block
Blocking keeps that person out of your future matches, in every mode.
Reviewed 24 hours a day
Reports are handled around the clock, not in office hours.
Not for your first chat. You can start straight from the page.
No. It runs in the browser you are reading this in, on desktop and on phones.
Free to start — you get a set number of matches before anything is charged, and the counter is on screen. After those, matches run on coins.
Yes. Voice uses the microphone only and text uses neither.
Skip. It ends immediately and moves you to the next match.
Report them, block them, or both. Reports are reviewed 24 hours a day.
